With large-scale outdoor events returning to Northern Ireland, Irwin Carr Consulting was delighted to provide noise management services for the recent Planet Love Festival in Belfast.
In advance of the event, our team worked closely with Belfast City Council’s Environmental Health Department to establish an appropriate noise management strategy. This included undertaking baseline noise monitoring in the surrounding area and carrying out detailed noise modelling to predict potential impacts at nearby noise-sensitive properties. The results were used to define suitable operational noise limits for the event.
During the festival, both on-site and off-site noise monitoring systems were deployed to provide continuous real-time oversight of sound levels. Automated alerts were issued directly to event operators whenever pre-defined thresholds were approached, enabling proactive management of the sound system and helping to ensure compliance with agreed noise limits while minimising potential disturbance to local residents.
Projects such as Planet Love demonstrate the importance of effective acoustic planning and monitoring in supporting major live events, allowing organisers to deliver an outstanding audience experience while maintaining consideration for the surrounding community.
