dBsea SRI Tool

dBSea SRI tool

The Sound Risk Indicator (SRI) Tool has been developed to provide a rapid and practical method for assessing the effects of design changes on underwater noise-generating activities. By considering the sensitivity of a wide range of marine species and presenting results as a single risk indicator value, the tool enables straightforward comparison of alternative design and operational scenarios.

Working in collaboration with Equinor, Irwin Carr helped develop this conservative screening tool to support the early identification of projects and activities that may require more detailed underwater noise assessment. The SRI Tool allows developers, consultants and regulators to quickly evaluate potential risks and focus resources where further investigation is most needed.

By facilitating early-stage decision-making, the tool helps ensure that the potential impacts of underwater noise on marine wildlife are properly identified and assessed, while promoting efficient and proportionate environmental management.
