AMIGOS is a large‑scale offshore research programme focused on underwater noise and marine mammal acoustic monitoring along a transect from Ireland to Gibraltar. The project forms part of wider EU‑funded research into marine soundscapes, vessel noise, and biodiversity protection, with a strong emphasis on applied outcomes and data quality.

Our involvement included participation in offshore field surveys, analysis and modelling of underwater noise sources, and contribution of applied acoustic expertise to support scientific research, teaching material, and future publications. The project strengthened Irwin Carr’s capability in offshore and port‑related underwater noise assessment, and reinforced strong links between academic research and real‑world regulatory and commercial requirements.

AMIGOS demonstrates Irwin Carr’s ability to deliver reliable, evidence‑led marine acoustic expertise on complex, large‑scale projects.
