Irwin Carr developed and delivered underwater noise monitoring proposals for Dublin Bay, focused on establishing a baseline soundscape for Ireland’s busiest port. The programme was designed to quantify underwater noise from different vessel classes by correlating acoustic recordings with vessel movement data.

The work recognised Dublin Bay as a sensitive marine environment, supporting protected species including harbour porpoise and seals. Monitoring outputs were intended to support impact assessment, inform sustainable port development, and provide a robust dataset for future regulatory review.
