Turbine Sound Power Level Testing

Turbine Sound Power Level Testing

Irwin Carr recently undertook sound power level measurements of a Vestas V44 wind turbine curtailed to 250kW.

It is common practice in Northern Ireland for wind turbines to be operated in a curtailed mode to no more than 250kW, to best avail of Renewable Obligation Certificates.  However, sound power level data provided by the manufacturers of these wind turbines relates to the turbines operating at full power.

Local councils via the planning regime are now requesting sound power level data that specifically relates to the particular wind turbine operating within the curtailed mode.  This sound power level data for curtailed operations is rarely available.

Irwin Carr have undertaken sound power level testing for a variety of wind turbines following the methodology within “IEC61400-11:2013 Wind Turbines – Part 11: Acoustic noise measurement techniques” and accepted by the local councils.  Please call a member of our team to you would like to discuss your requirements.
